Below are a list of courses that we are considering running from the end of lockdown onwards. We would like to gauge interest in these courses before we start to plan for them.
If any of them would interest you or if there is another course you would like to see us run here then please let us know either by email at info@monktonwyldcourt.org or phone on 01297560342
Please note that the actual content of these courses is not yet confirmed.
Small Holding Dairying and Cheese Making
Join Simon Fairlie for a four day course focusing on all you need to know about running your own micro dairy. Including haymaking and grassland management, understanding dairy breeds, grazing rotation and hands on practice with milking and dairy production.
Natural Outdoor Timber Building
Join in with the construction of a new out-building for Monkton Wyld Court. You will learn basic design techniques, timber sourcing, planning & construction. This will be run by our on-site construction expert who is responsible for many of the existing out-buildings on site such as our small pub, outdoor kitchen and shower unit and our award winning compost loos.
Bread Making
Learn how to make your own daily loaf from one of our long term bread makers. You’d be able to take your loaf home with you along with the knowledge and confidence to bake your own from now on. We may also spend some time on different types of bread eg rolls, garlic bread and sourdoughs. This would be a one day non-residential event.
Seasonal Preserves
Teaching basics that will enable you to go on and make jams, pickles and chutney of your own. We could cover seasonal fruits such as raspberries, strawberries, apricots and apples along with techniques that you can take home and use all year round which will also help you to reduce your food waste.
Food Growing for Children
A fun day of learning in our garden for kids to learn how to plant some seasonal vegetables. These can be taken home and transplanted to your own garden so you can watch them grow. You’ll learn the whole process from preparing the soil, sowing, growing and harvesting.
Other courses that we are considering are willow weaving, hedge laying and residential weeks that would focus on outdoor education and activities for home educating families.
