Our writers’ retreat rooms have views of the terraces, lawns, valley, and hills on the south side of the building.
Lunch and dinner are served in the Visitor’s Dining Room. You can help yourself to tea and coffee there throughout the day. A self-service breakfast is available each morning from 7-10.
We have several acres of land and views for you to take in whilst you stay with us. You can relax with a laptop or notebook on our terraces or take a relaxing walk to our stream. You can also use our fire pit in the evenings; it is next to the house on our small campsite.
Below are some of the things that previous attendees have said about their stay:
“Monkton Wyld Court provided a perfect home away from home with an amazingly welcoming and friendly team, delicious home cooked meals to fuel our work and a peaceful setting to focus in. With all of this we were able to produce 4 new songs in a handful of days and would definitely return!”
Ella Langley & Stephen Hyde from The Lowry Salford
“Monkton Wyld is the perfect place for a writing retreat: peaceful, surrounded by nature, fantastic, healthy food and an atmosphere that just makes you feel like a better, calmer human being. The rooms are comfortable with no distractions beyond the spectacular views out of the window, and the public spaces provide human contact and comfort when you’ve been in your own head too long. Can’t recommend it highly enough.”
Alison Jones, Director of Practical Inspiration Publishing & host of The Extraordinary Business Book Club
“I have never felt so gloriously held by a creative space as I did during my time at Monkton Wyld Court. I felt at once as I did as a child at my grandmother’s house, curious, creative and safe to explore possibilities, to create worlds because all I had to do was write, read and sleep while Monkton took care of the rest. I never knew in advance what lunch and dinner would be but I went down the servant staircase at the appointed times, 1pm and 6pm, to healthy and delicious meals, (soups to die for in gorgeous clay tureens) from their sustainable gardens. The single lane road leading to Monkton is perfect for stretching your legs and taking walks with the English Channel visible from the top of the hill. This is not a fussy bed and breakfast, no annoying tourists. Monkton Wyld is the perfect place to disconnect and work without distraction. I finished a manuscript there and I can’t wait to return.”
